I have a multi-faceted classroom management plan. The plan encourages and rewards positive behavior on both the individual and whole class level. At the same time, inappropriate behavior results in consequences.
For appropriate individual behavior, students are given tickets. Students write their names on any earned tickets and place them in a jar. On Fridays, I pull five tickets out of the jar. Those five students pick a treat from the treasure box.
For appropriate whole class behavior, our class uses a points system. We set a goal for the number of points that we want to earn. When we reach our goal, we decide on a whole class reward. Points are earned for compliments received, attentive behavior during a lesson, excellent line behavior, etc.
It is expected that everyone respect our learning environment. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated in the classroom. On the first day of school, expectations will be discussed and decided upon as a class. It is expected that all students will abide by these expectations.
In the event of disruptive behavior, the child will first be given a friendly warning. If the inappropriate behavior persists, the child will receive a check on his/her Friday Folder and have time-out. For two checks, the child will have time-out and will have a conference with the teacher. If more than two checks are received in one day, a note will be sent home.
*Severe Clause: Some behaviors will automatically cause a student to be referred to the office. Examples: fighting, inappropriate touching, inappropriate language, disrespecting adults, etc.
